Chairman’s Statement

Welcome to General Required Courses (GRC), where the department offers a preparatory one-year (two-term) program of study at Jeddah Community College (JCC), KAU. The program focuses on intensive English, fundamentals of mathematics, communication skills and work ethics. It gives priority to enabling students, through an enjoyable approach, to communicate themselves in English. English is taught through electronic devices such as language software, CD-ROMs, audio cassettes, and smartboards. The GRC Department has two well-equipped language labs that help improve the students’ skills for listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This further enables them to pursue more specialized courses of study in their second and third years.

The Mathematics course aims to sharpen the students’ ability to solve problems and to apply a more logical approach in the pursuit of their future career. In addition, the Department offers two Communication Skills courses (in English and in Arabic). These two courses help improve students’ ability to present themselves, communicate, and compete well in the job market and also to perform well in their future careers. There are also two Work Ethics courses which aim to shape students’ attitude to work and to the values of good conduct, professional ethics, and professionalism.
